Tehran, Iran (December 26, 2014) – darb44, the first work and show art gallery in the heart of the city, has its grand opening on Friday, December 26 at 5pm.

The opening exhibit will highlight the works of 2 contemporary artists: Neda
Nickzad and Khosrow Rajabdoost. On show are paintings and ceramics, juxtaposed to reflect the daily politics of the country and aiming to start a dialogue on the future of Iranian art.

“I know great artists and, over the years, many of them have asked me to help them promote their work as well as to see and experience Iran.  It has always been a dream to open an art gallery, and when I was given this great space, I knew the time was right,” says Neda Nickzad, owner of the gallery. “Our goal is to invite artists from abroad and provide a time of reflection, research, and production. We enable them to explore his/her practice within another international art community: meet new people, use new materials, and experience life in a new location.”

darb44 aims to emphasize the importance of meaningful and multi-layered cultural exchange and immersion into another culture. With 4000 sq. feet of space, our artists will create new work, with the gallery as their studio. The gallery will be open to the public to interact with artists and see their work in progress. International curators of prestige will visit the gallery to review artists’ work and advise them at the end of their production.

darb44 is the newest addition to the flourishing Tehran art scene, and the first gallery in Tehran to offer a work and show space for the artist. The minimalist gallery exhibits emerging and established artists creating contemporary works on paper, paintings, collage, photography, video, digital art and sculpture. The mission of darb44 is to bridge artists, both local and international, and provide them greater exposure to new markets.
